Understanding Islamic Inheritance (Fara'id)
What is Fara'id?
Fara'id is the science of Islamic inheritance distribution. It is based on the precise shares mentioned in the Holy Quran (Surah An-Nisa), ensuring that family members are provided for fairly after a death.
Who are the Primary Heirs?
In most cases, the primary heirs are the spouse, parents, sons, and daughters. Their shares change depending on whether the deceased had children or siblings.
The 1/3 Rule (Wasiyyah)
A Muslim is permitted to leave a will (Wasiyyah) for up to one-third (33.3%) of their estate to people who are not already legal heirs (such as charities or distant friends). The remaining two-thirds must be divided according to Sharia.
Note: While this tool provides accurate mathematical shares, inheritance can become complex. We recommend consulting a local scholar for final legal documents.
